This paper solves a problem of \textit{R. A. Brualdi} and \textit{B. L. Shader} [Matrices of sign-solvable linear systems. Cambridge (1995; Zbl 0833.15002); cf. also \textit{B. L. Shader}, SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl. 16, No. 4, 1056-1073 (1995; Zbl 0837.05032)], to find necessary and sufficient conditions for a matrix \(A\) in block triangular form, given suitable conditions on the main diagonal blocks, that all matrices with the same sign pattern as \(A\) have a Moore-Penrose inverse with the same sign pattern as \(A^+\).
