The set of Young diagrams \(\lambda\) (or partitions of \(n\), \(n\geq 0\)) index the basis \(v_{\lambda}\) of a vector space \(V\). This vector space has two distinct ring structures defined on it. The first arises from the decomposition of tensor products of irreducible representations of the Lie group of type \(A\) (such representations are parametrised by the Young diagrams) and the second arises from similar considerations in types \(B, C\) and \(D\) (in all three types, the ring structure on \(V\) is the same). Denote the type \(A\) ring by \(Y_A\) and the type \(B,C\) or \(D\) ring by \(Y_{BCD}\). In this paper, the author studies the possible embeddings of \(Y_A\) into \(Y_{BCD}\). In the presence of certain positivity, weight and parity conditions he is able to show that there are exactly two solutions. The results in this paper naturally extend the Kirillov-Reshetikhin decompositions of representations of symplectic and orthogonal quantum affine algebras; see \textit{A. N. Kirillov} and \textit{N. Yu. Reshetikhin} [Zap. Nauchn. Sem. Leningrad. Otd. Mat. Inst. Steklov 160, 211--221 (1987; Zbl 0900.16047), translated in J. Sov. Math. 52, 3156--3164 (1990)]. See also \textit{V. Chari} [Int. Math.
