The paper deals with both theoretical and numerical study of a system of a nonlinear Hamilton-Jacobi equation coupled with a linear transport equation. Some applications are presented (the Schrödinger equation, the wave equation, the Helmholtz equation). An existence and uniqueness result (in the framework of viscosity and duality solutions) is described. Furthermore, the authors give sufficient conditions to ensure convergence of some classical finite difference schemes (the Lax-Friedrichs type schemes, upwind schemes).
