This paper deals with 2-neighborly triangulations of surfaces. Two operations are introduced for modifying one such triangulation into another. This defines several graph structures where the vertices correspond to the triangulations and the edges correspond to the operations. The author determines these graphs for some cases with small number of vertices. As an example, the 14 distinct 10-vertex surfaces split into 6 components for one of the operations, into 3 components for the other operation, and is connected for both operations simultaneously. In the case of 12 vertices these operations were applied for constructing new examples: There are at least 40615 distinct non-orientable neighborly surfaces with 12 vertices. The author suggests the possible conjecture that the graph becomes always connected if one allows surfaces with singularities.
