[The articles of this volume will not be indexed individually.] The book is the first volume of two volume set ``Lectures on QCD'' which provides an introductory overview of quantum chromodynamics. It consists of eight lectures, given by experts in the field, concerning such topics as lattice QCD, topological and semiclassical effects in gauge theories, anomalies, QCD sum rules, Skyrme model and supersymmetry. The book begins with nice introductory lecture by \textit{P. Hasenfratz}. It is focused mainly on renormalization group method and lattice regularization. The following lecture, by \textit{J. W. Negele}, deals, in aquite detailed way, with lattice gauge theories and their role in understanding the hadron structure. \textit{R. Jackiw} discusses topological effects in gauge theories (axial anomaly, theta-vacua, instantons and high temperature QCD). \textit{L. O'Raifeartaigh} gives a brief review of semiclassical aspects of quantum field theory. Then two lectures by \textit{M. A. Shifman} follow dealing with anomalies and QCD sum rules. In spite of their extreme brevity they are really nice. The Skyrme model is discussed by \textit{I. Klebanov}. Finally, an overview of supersymmetry (including elements of recently developed Witten-Seiberg theory) is presented in notes by \textit{H. W. Griesshammer}, \textit{D. Lehman} and \textit{M. Seeger}. Summarizing, the above set of lectures provides a nice introduction to theoretical basis of modern theory of strong interactions. However, in the reviewer's opinion, it is rather suitable for people already acquainted with some elements of the theory.
