A ring \(R\) is said to be a unit-regular ring if, for each \(x\in R\), there exists a unit \(u\in R\) such that \(xux=x\); a regular ring \(R\) is said to satisfy \((s:t)\)-comparability if for any \(x,y\in R\), either \(t(xR)\lesssim s(yR)\) or \(t(yR)\lesssim s(xR)\), where \(s\), \(t\) are positive integers [\textit{P. Ara, K. C. O'Meara, D. V. Tyukavkin}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 107, No. 1, 19-38 (1996; Zbl 0851.16008)]; a regular ring \(R\) is said to satisfy \(s\)-comparability if \(R\) satisfies \((s:t)\)-comparability and \(t=1\); a regular ring \(R\) is said to satisfy the comparability axiom if \(R\) satisfies \(s\)-comparability and \(s=1\). The author first investigates unit-regular rings satisfying \(s\)-comparability and proves that these rings have the property: \(P\oplus Q\) is directly finite for any two directly finite projective modules \(P\) and \(Q\). Next, the author obtains a criterion of direct finiteness of projective modules over these rings, using this result determines the types of directly finite projective modules and classifies the family of all unit-regular rings satisfying \(s\)-comparability in three types: Types A, B and C. Finally, the author gives an ideal-theoretic characterization for Types A, B and C.
