Let \(F\) be an algebraically closed field of characteristic \(p>0\) and \(G\) a finite group having the Sylow \(p\)-subgroup \(P\). The group \(G\) is called \(p\)-radical if \((F_P)^G\) is a semisimple \(FG\)-module, where \(F_P\) is the trivial \(FP\)-module. The main result of the paper states that \(G\) is \(p\)-radical if and only if for every simple \(FG\)-module \(S\) there is a subgroup \(U\) of \(G\) and a simple \(FU\)-module \(T\) satisfying (1) \(S=T^G\) and some vertex of \(S\) is contained in \(\text{Ker}(T)\), and (2) \(U\cap P^g\in\text{Syl}_p(U)\) for all \(g\in G\). Several corollaries are also derived.
