The authors show in what way the Eilenberg-Montgomery fixed point theorem for multivalued mappings with nonconvex values can be used to prove the existence of solutions of boundary value problems for second order nonlinear ordinary differential equations. They first state and prove a general existence principle in terms of acyclic sets. Then, as an application, a known existence result for some particular periodic boundary value problems is reproved by means of this method.
