Products of free groups in the unit group of integral group rings. II (Q1357561)

The authors classify the finite groups \(G\) such that the group of units of the integral group ring \(\mathbb{Z} G\) of \(G\) has a subgroup of finite index which is a direct product of noncyclic free groups. The classification is done in terms of restrictions to the Wedderburn components which can occur and the authors classify moreover the isomorphism types of the groups \(G\) having this property. In part I [ibid. 180, No. 1, 22-40 (1996; Zbl 0846.20006)] the authors and \textit{E. Jespers} classified the nilpotent \(G\) with this property.
