It is given a wide class of polynomials with complex coefficients deviating least from zero on \([-1,1]\) among all polynomials of degree \(n\) which have the same first \(m+1\) fixed coefficients. This class is generated by means of any pair \(r,s\) of polynomials of degree \(m,m-1\) correspondingly, which satisfy the following assumptions: (1) the polynomial \(r(z)+is(z)\) has all its zeroes in the open unit disk \(\{z\in \mathbb C :| z| <1\}\), (2) \(| r(e^{i\phi })| ^2 +| s(e^{i\phi })| ^2=\)const. for all \(\phi \in [0,2\pi ].\) For \(m=1\) that class generalizes Freund-Ruscheweyh polynomials by \textit{R. Freund} and \textit{St.Ruscheweyh} [Numer. Math. 48, 525-542 (1986; Zbl 0611.65016)]and \textit{R. Freund} [Constructive Approximation 4, 11-121 (1988; Zbl 0645.41021)]. Moreover, ``weighted'' generalizations (with weights \(1/\rho ^{1/2}_{l}(x)\) and \(((1+x)/\rho _{l}(x))^{1/2}\), where \(\rho_{l}(x)\) is a positive polynomial of degree \(l\) on \([-1,1])\) are found.
