Studying smooth families \(X\to B\) of projective varieties, one is usually concerned with relations between properties of the general fibers and properties of the total space. In particular, studying the structure of rational points on varieties of general type, e.g. in view of Lang's conjecture, one is concerned with the Kodaira dimension of the corresponding \(n\)-pointed family \(X^n_B\to B\), whose total space is singular. When the fibers of the family are curves or surfaces, then one knows enough about the structure of moduli spaces and the situation is quite understood. The author attaches in the present paper the case of families with fibers of arbitrary dimension. He uses standard positivity results by Kollár and Viehweg and a variant of semistable reduction introduced by De Jong, proving that for a smooth family of varieties of general type and for some \(n>0\), the corresponding \(n\)-pointed family \(X^n_B\) maps birationally to a subvariety of general type in the \(n\)-pointed moduli space.
