Let \(\mathcal F\) be a nondegenerated holomorphic foliation of \(\mathbb P^2 _\mathbb C\) with invariant curve \(C\). The Poincaré problem of bounding the degree \(d_0\) of \(C\) by the degree \(d\) of \(\mathcal F\) is treated in [\textit{Manuel M. Carnicer}, Ann. Math., II. Ser. 140, No. 2, 289-294 (1994; Zbl 0821.32026)] on the assumption that \(\mathcal F\) has no dicritical singularities and in [\textit{D. Cerveau} and \textit{A. Lins Neto}, Ann. Inst. Fourier 41, No. 4, 883-904 (1991; Zbl 0734.34007)] on the assumption that \(C\) has at most ordinary double points as singularities and does not contain singularities of \(\mathcal F\). We find there \(d_0 \leq d+2\). In this paper, the problem is generalized to the case of a smooth irreducible hypersurface \(V\) of degree \(d_0\) invariant by a nondegenerated one-dimensional holomorphic foliation \(\mathcal F\) of \(\mathbb P ^n _\mathbb C\) of degree \(d\geq 2\). The following theorems are proved. Theorem A gives the number of singularities of \(\mathcal F\) in \(V\) by an expression of the degrees \(d_0\) and \(d\). Theorem B. \(d_0 \leq d+1\).
