Certain qualitative properties of the spectral problem \(A^T(Ax)_{(q)}=\lambda^q(x)_{(p)}\) are considered, where \(x= [x_1,\dots,x_n]^T\in \mathbb{R}^n\), \(A\in\mathbb{R}^{n\times n}\), \(1<p, q<\infty\) and \((x)_{(p)}:= [\xi_1,\dots,\xi_n]^T\), \(\xi_i=|x_i|^{p-1}\text{sgn}(x_i)\). For \(p= q=2\) the spectrum \(\{\lambda_1,\dots,\lambda_n\}\) consists of the singular values of \(A\). The case of totally positive matrices \(A\) had been considered previously by the author [Math. Notes 47, No. 1, 26-31 (1990); translation from Mat. Zametki 47, No. 1, 39-46 (1990; Zbl 0797.41021)].
