The unique solvability of the regular singular two point boundary value problem \[ \begin{aligned} -(p(x)y')'=p(x)f(x,y),\quad 0<x\leq b,\;\lim_{x\to 0+}y'(x)=0,\quad y(b)=B \end{aligned} \tag{*} \] is investigated. The function \(p\in C^1\) is supposed to be positive in \((0,b)\) such that \(xp'(x)/p(x)\) is analytic in some disc \(\{z: |z|\leq r\}\) with \(r>b\). The proof of the main result of the paper - an existence theorem for (*) - is based on the iterative construction of monotone sequences \(\{u_n(x)\},\{v_n(x)\}\) such that \(u_n(x)\to u(x)\), \(v_n(x)\to v(x)\) and any solution \(y\) of (*) satisfies \(v(x)\leq y(x)\leq u(x)\), \(x\in (0,b)\). Under certain additional assumptions on the nonlinearity \(f\) it is proved that \(v(x)\equiv u(x)\), so (*) is uniquely solvable. The sequences \(\{u_n\}\), \(\{v_n\}\) are given by the iterative formula \[ -(p(x)u'_{n+1}(x))'-kp(x)u_{n+1}(x)=p(x)f(x,u_n(x))-kp(x)u_n(x) \] (\(\{v_n\}\) satisfies the same formula) with suitable initial iterations \(u_0(x)\), \(v_0(x)\) and a suitable real constant \(k\).
