The author obtains existence results for periodic solutions of functional differential systems with impulses. He makes use of the coincidence degree theory and of the notions of strict bounded set and guiding function adapted to the impulsive case. When the impulsive effects are absent, the results reduce to some theorems by \textit{J. Mawhin} [J. Differ. Equations 10, 240-261 (1971; Zbl 0223.34055) and Regional Conference Series in Mathematics 40, Rhode Island (1979; Zbl 0414.34025)]. The results also generalize to the functional case some theorems by \textit{S. G. Khristova} and \textit{D. D. Bajnov} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 125, 192-202 (1987; Zbl 0636.34031)] and \textit{Y. Li} and \textit{Q. Zhou} [Sci. China, Ser. A 36, No. 7, 778-790 (1993; Zbl 0787.34015)].
