The problem's equation is \(\ddot x= F(\lambda t, x,\dot x;\lambda)\), \(x(t_0)= X_0\), \(\dot x(t_0)= V_0\), where \(\lambda\) \((\lambda\gg 1)\) characterize a high-frequency external force. Introducing the ``fast time'' \(\theta= \lambda t\) and \(\varepsilon=\lambda^{-1}\), the equation will be \(x''= f(\theta, x, x',\varepsilon)\), \(\theta\geq \theta_0\), \(x(\theta_0)= x_0\), and \(x'(\theta_0)= v_0\). Here \(x\) is a vector of arbitrary dimension, and it is assumed that \(f(\theta, x,x',\varepsilon)= \varepsilon p(\theta, x, x')+ \varepsilon^2q(\theta, x,\varepsilon^{-1}x, \varepsilon)\) with certain assumptions on \(p\) and \(q\). In particular, on \(p\) it is imposed: \(\langle p(\theta, x,0)\rangle_\theta\equiv 0\), \(x\in D_x\). The paper studies the asymptotic behaviour of the above system. A reduction to standard form follows, and a transformation is carried out allowing the asymptotic analysis. The first approximation is studied qualitatively for slow displacements. As examples, the author considers a finite degree of freedom nonlinear oscillator with variable parameters, a pendulum of variable length, a pendulum with a deformable thread the length of which varies due to variable tension, and finally a pendulum with a vibrating point of suspension. Stability of equilibrium states is investigated.
