To elucidate the importance of the decoration for the geometric kinks along the dislocation line by mobile point defects, in highly localized fashion, the complete numerical treatment has been given, that also takes into account the non-Newtonian character of the viscosity. Together with nonlinear character of the damping, the discrete model adopted in the present study reveals some important secondary features of the dislocation damping problem, namely, the characterization of internal friction spectrum in terms of the relaxation strength, and the peak maximum position at low kink densities where the continuum model fails completely. First, a mathematical macromodel has been presented which is valid for any type of point defect-kink interaction that causes the dragging effect on the movements of kinks, regardless of the crystals structure of the supporting alloy system. The set of nonlinear differential equations is represented in the dimensionless form that involves eight universal system parameters. Then the concept of dynamical internal friction coefficient associated with the set of differential equations of the dissipative nature is introduced. Further, the author presents the results of computer simulations on the Coulombic discrete kink chain, subjected to the dragging impurity cloud spread out along the chain and decorated by another moving point defect in the middle. The internal friction coefficient obtained indicates the existence of two separate peaks, the decoration peak and the parent one, which are directly related to the localized point defect dragging and the smeared-out paraelastic or isotropic defect atmospheres, respectively. Finally, some applications of the decoration theory to the hydrogen dislocation damping peaks in plastically deformed BCC and FCC metals have been presented. This decoration theory predicts with extreme accuracy an effective activation enthalpy of dislocation relaxations, especially in the case of isotropic Snoek-Koster peaks. The present mathematical model can also cover the case with two different kinds of drag, one operating continuously along the dislocation as a lattice friction or the secondary Peierls barriers against the thermal kink diffusion or migration, and the other acting at discrete points (solely in the vicicity of kinks) in highly localized fashion as a kink mobility inhibitor. The paper gives a very good review of ideas in the considered field.
