The authors consider problems of the form \[ x''(t)+g(t,x,x',x'')=f(t) \] where \(g:[0,1]\times {\mathbb{R}}^3\rightarrow {\mathbb{R}}\) is continuous and \(x(t)\) satisfies Dirichlet, Neumann or mixed-type boundary conditions. To show the existence of solutions to these boundary value problems they use the continuation theory for \(k\)-set contractions [see \textit{R. E. Gaines} and \textit{J. L. Mawhin}, Lect. Notes Math. 568. Berlin-Heidelberg-New York, Springer (1977; Zbl 0339.47031), \textit{G. Hetzer}, Ann. Soc. Sci. Bruxelles, Ser. I 89, 847-508 (1975; Zbl 0316.47041)], an abstract theorem developed in \textit{W. V. Petryshyn} and \textit{Z. S. Yu}, Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 6, 943-969 (1982; Zbl 0525.34015)] and certain a priori bounds on solutions.
