New upper bounds for robust stability are developed for block-structured uncertainty involving an arbitrary spatial norm. A generalization of the structured singular value is given and necessary and sufficient conditions for robustness are provided. The main result of the paper provides an upper bound for the structured matrix norm. The cases, where the defining norm is or is not the maximum singular value are exploited.
