The paper deals with the stability of some numerical solutions of the steady Euler equations over a circular cylinder. The authors compute the evolution of such solutions through the discretized unsteady Euler equations, by means of an implicit finite difference scheme involving artificial viscosity in the momentum and energy equations. They also put an artificial outer boundary on the circle that is 12 times bigger than the cylinder, where they impose the circulation in the flow field. Their numerical experiments show that the asymmetric solutions are stable, whereas the symmetric solution is not. In the latter case, they obtain, for a periodic far field circulation, a chaotic-like solution.
