    Let \(0\leq a_j\), \(1\leq j\leq n\). The Heisenberg group \({\mathbf H}_n\) is the set \(\mathbb{C}^n \times {\mathbf R}\) with multiplication given by \[ (z,t) \cdot(w,s) =\left(z+w, s+t+2 \text{Im} \sum^n_{j=1} a_jz_j w_j\right). \] It is known that the set \(\{{\mathbf Z}_1, \dots, {\mathbf Z}_n, \overline {\mathbf Z}_1, \dots, \overline {\mathbf Z}_n,T\}\) is a basis for the left-invariant vector fields of the Lie algebra of the groups \({\mathbf H}_n\), where \({\mathbf Z}_j= \partial/ \partial z_j+ia_j \overline z_j \partial/ \partial t\) and \(\overline {\mathbf Z}_j =\partial/ \partial \overline z_j-ia_jz_j \partial/ \partial t\) for \(1\leq j\leq n\). The main purpose of the article is to study the joint spectrum \(\sigma ({\mathfrak L},iT)\) of the pair \(({\mathfrak L},iT)\) of operators \({\mathfrak L} ={1\over 2} \sum^n_{j=1} ({\mathbf Z}_j \overline {\mathbf Z}_j- \overline {\mathbf Z}_j {\mathbf Z}_j)\) and \(iT=i \partial/ \partial t\) in the space \(L^p ({\mathbf H}_n)\). By definition, \((\lambda,\mu) \in\mathbb{C}^2\) is in \(\sigma ({\mathfrak L},iT)\) if for no pair \((A,B)\) of \(L^p\)-bounded operators \(A\) and \(B\) we have \(A(\lambda I-{\mathfrak L}) +B(\mu I-iT)=I\). Such an approach to harmonic analysis in the case of isotropic \((a_j=a_i)\) Heisenberg groups one can find in a paper of R. S. Strichartz. The authors determine the joint spectrum, the eigenfunction corresponding to \((\lambda,\mu) \in \sigma ({\mathfrak L},iT)\), the spectral projection operators and their kernels. It turns out that the projection operator acting on the Hardy and Morrey function spaces has many regular properties. The paper contains generalizations of some results from the work of Strichartz. However, the methods used here are completely different: the fundamental tool is the so-called symbolic tensor calculus induced by Laguerre functions on Heisenberg groups, which was introduced by P. Greiner.
