The author gives a very brief outline of the life and work of Julius König, 1849-1913, and his studies in algebra, analysis, partial differential equations and Cantorian set theory. He also attempts to explain how König's work in areas such as polynomial ideals influenced Hilbert, Lasker, Macaulay, Emmy Noether, van der Waerden and Gröbner and how they simplified his ideas to such an extent that it is now only of historical interest.
