The Bessel functions \(J_p(x)\) and \(Y_p(x)\) with real \(x\in(0,\infty)\) and \(p\geq0\) are computed by methods based on the differential equation of the Bessel equation and on the modulus and phase of the Bessel functions. The authors introduce a new scaling factor and use this in the modified Prüfer transformation, and observe several improvements of their approach compared with the paper of \textit{K. Balla, O. S. Guk} and \textit{M. Vicsek} [Computing 50, No. 1, 77-85 (1993; Zbl 0773.65004)]. Details on the numerical implementation will be published separately.
