The authors consider the \(H_\infty\) control problem for descriptor systems that possibly have impulsive modes and/or \(j\omega\)-axis zeros. Matrix inequalities that characterize some properties of descriptor systems, namely generalized stability condition and \(H_\infty\) norm condition, are proposed. Using these algebraic conditions the authors reduce the descriptor \(H_\infty\) control problems, which involves satisfying the \(H_\infty\) condition and eliminating the impulsive modes of the plant, to solving linear matrix inequalities.
