An approach to nonlinear stability is proposed. This approach leads to a set of stabilizing conic sectors or cones that can be used to give bounds on the nonlinear and uncertain dynamics. First, the limits and scope of the small-gain and loop-transformations (SGLT) techniques are clarified. Then, loop transformations based on \(2 \times 2\) constant block matrices are considered, and a maximality analysis (with respect to cones inclusion) is developed. An algorithm for deriving maximal cones is also presented and discussed.
