Let \(M(g,m,n)\) be the set of isometry classes of hyperbolic surfaces of genus \(g\) with \(m\) punctures, \(n\) holes, and no boundaries. If \(M\in M(g,m,n)\), the length spectrum is the collection of lengths of closed geodesics where each length is repeated according to multiplicity. Note that the set of lengths is discrete and each multiplicity is finite in this setting. The author shows that if \(g\geq56\) and if \(m\) and \(n\) are given, then there exist manifolds \(M_1\in M(g,m,n)\) and \(M_2\in M(g,m,n)\) so that the length spectra of \(M_1\) and \(M_2\) coincide and so that \(M_1\) and \(M_2\) are not isometric. The paper applies a technique developed by \textit{T. Sunada} [Ann. Math., II. Ser. 121, 169-186 (1985; Zbl 0585.58047)], which was used previously by \textit{P. Buser} [`Geometry and spectra of compact Riemann surfaces' (1992; Zbl 0770.53001)] and \textit{R. Brooks} and \textit{R. Tse} [Nagoya Math. J. 170, 13-24 (1987; Zbl 0605.58041)] to construct isospectral surfaces, to construct iso-length-spectral non isometric surfaces.
