This paper represents an interesting and systematic approach to the min-max method in critical point theory. The paper is organized as follows: Section 2 presents the deformation property and the min-max principle, formulated in an equivariant setting. Section 3 deals with critical point theory for non-smooth functions, and Section 4 gives several examples of settings in which the deformation property is verified under the local Palais-Smale condition. A rich and suggestive bibliography for this topic is included.
