The unitary irreducible representations of the algebra \(so(4,2)\) and its Poincaré subalgebra are considered. Let \({\mathfrak g}\) be a simple Lie algebra and let \(S=\mu sl(2)\) be a direct sum of \(\mu\) regular \(sl(2)\) subalgebras of \({\mathfrak g}\). Then it is possible to consider any finite \(W({\mathfrak g},S)\) algebra as the commutant in the enveloping algebra \({\mathfrak n}({\mathfrak g})\) of some \({\mathfrak g}\)-subalgebra \(\widetilde{\mathfrak g}\). That allows the authors to provide a new technique for the construction of representations of the algebra \({\mathfrak g}\). They then apply this result to get realizations of the \(so(4,2)\) algebra (and of its Poincaré subalgebra). The \(W\)-realization of the Poincaré subalgebra provides the Pauli-Lubanski-Wigner quadrivector \(W^\mu\) in a natural way. A generalization to \(so(4,2)\) allows to derive two new quadrivectors that, together with \(P^\mu\) and \(W^\mu\), form a basis of the Minkowski space.
