The main result of this note, inspired by one of R. Baer's theorems [Hilfsatz 9.8, p. 719 in \textit{B. Huppert}'s Endliche Gruppen I (1967; Zbl 0217.07201)] is the following: Theorem. Let \(G\) be a group and let \(H\) be a group acting on \(G\) in such a manner that \(G_1\vartriangleleft G_2\vartriangleleft\cdots\vartriangleleft G_{n-1}\vartriangleleft G_n\vartriangleleft G\) is an \(H\)-invariant subgroup chain with cyclic factors. Then \(H/C_H(G/G_1)\) is supersolvable. Among the consequences of this result, I quote here the following: Corollary 5. Let \(G\) be a finite solvable group, let \(H\) be a group acting on \(G\) and suppose there exists an \(H\)-invariant subgroup chain \(1=G_1<G_2<\cdots<G_{n-1}<G_n=G\) with \(|G_{i+1}:G_i|\) a prime for \(1\leq i\leq n-1\). Then \(H/C_H(G)\) is supersolvable.
