The authors study the effects of toxicants on the population for an \(n\)-dimensional food chain model in a polluted environment. Following Hallam's earlier work [see, e.g., \textit{T. G. Hallam} et al., Ecol. Modelling 18, 291-304 (1983; Zbl 0548.92018), and J. Math. Biol. 18, 25-37 (1983; Zbl 0548.92019)] on toxicant-population models in mathematical ecotoxicology, the thresholds between persistence and extinction of the populations are given as functions of model parameters and a time-varying chemical concentration.
