The authors consider the problem of constructing the polynomial of best mean-square approximation of a real-valued function of integrable square on an compact interval of the real axis. It is shown in the present paper that the coefficients of the polynomial of best approximation can be represented as weighted-mean values of derivatives of the function to be approximated. An example (arising in the theory of digital measuring instruments) is presented.
