From the text (translated from the Russian): ``The author establishes estimates for the order of approximation of a wide class of functions by their biorthogonal expansions in a system of roots functions (i.e., eigenfunctions and associated functions) of the operator \(L_1\) generated by the differential expression \(l_1u=u'' +p_1 (x)u'+ q_1(x)u\), \(x\in G=(0,1)\), in the class \(D\) of functions that are absolutely continuous on \(\overline G=[0,1]\) along with their first derivatives. The author obtains estimates for the rate of equiconvergence of the Fourier series in root functions of \(L_1\) with Fourier series in root functions of \(L_2\): \(l_2y=y''+ p_2(x)y' +q_2(x)y\), \(x\in G\), \(y\in D\). In an earlier paper [Dokl. Akad. Nauk 342, No. 6, 735-738 (1995)], corresponding estimates are obtained for the Schrödinger operators \(p_1=0\), \(p_2=0\).
