The aim of the present paper is to compare Hamiltonian and Poisson actions of compact simple Lie groups on symplectic manifolds. The author proves that it is always possible to exchange the Poisson action to a Hamiltonian action by an appropriate change of the symplectic structure, reducing many questions concerning Poisson actions to their known counterparts from the theory of Hamiltonian actions. Let \(G_{\mathcal P}\) be a compact simple Poisson-Lie group endowed with a Poisson structure \(\mathcal P\) and let \((M, \omega)\) a symplectic manifold which carries a Poisson action of \(G_{\mathcal P}\). Suppose that there is an equivariant moment map \(m : M \rightarrow G_{\text P}^*\), in the sense of \textit{J.-H. Lu} and \textit{A. Weinstein} [J. Differ. Geom. 31, 501-526 (1990; Zbl 0673.58018)]. Here \(G_{\text P}^*\) is the dual Poisson-Lie group of \(G_{\text P}\). The author proves that there exists another symplectic form \(\widetilde\omega\) on \(M\) such that the action of \(G\) preserves \(\widetilde\omega\) and there is a new momentum map \(\mu = e^{-1} \circ m : M \rightarrow {\mathcal G}^*\), where \({\mathcal G}^*\) is the dual of the Lie algebra of \(G\) and \(e: {\mathcal G}^* \rightarrow G _{\mathcal P}^*\) is a universal (independent of \(M\)) invertible equivariant map. The new symplectic form on \(M\) is \(\widetilde\omega= \omega - \mu ^* \Omega\), where \(\Omega\) is a suitably chosen exact \(2\)-form on \({\mathcal G}^*\). The author uses his interesting theorem to obtain new short proofs of several results about Poisson-Lie group actions on symplectic manifolds: the convexity theorem of Flaschka and Ratiu, the Poisson reduction theorem and the isomorphism theorem of \({\mathcal G}^*\) and \(G_{\mathcal P}^*\) as Poisson spaces of Ginzburg and Weinstein.
