\textit{J. M. Anderson} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 249, 83-91 (1971; Zbl 0222.46036)] conjectured that for any conformal map \(\varphi\) in the unit disc there exists a direction \(\beta\), \(0 \leq \beta \leq 2\pi\), such that \(\int_{0}^{1} |\varphi ''(re^{i\beta}) |dr< \infty\). For the Bloch function \(b = \log |\varphi '|\), the authors demonstrate the existence of a direction \(\beta\) such that \[ b(re^{i\beta}) \leq -\delta \int_{0}^{r} |\nabla b(\rho e^{i\beta})|d\rho + {1 \over \delta}, \quad 0< r< 1, \] where \(\delta> 0\) is independent of \(r< 1\). This estimate affirms Anderson's conjecture. The authors' method of proof is constructive and relies on the use of a trio of inequalities due to J. Bourgain, Ch. Pommerenke and A. Beurling.
