Two splitting-domain algorithms using interval analysis to analyze and optimize a scalar criterion that depends nonlinearly on a parameter vector are presented. The results are guaranteed and provided with an estimation of the degree of approximation. As an example of application, the stability degree of a linear time-invariant parametric system is considered. As a result, it is possible to characterize isodegrees in the parameter space and to compute a set guaranteed to contain all values of the parameters that extremize the stability degree as well as an interval guaranteed to contain its optimal value. Several examples illustrate the efficiency of the method.
