A 2D sample-based conjugate gradient algorithm for adaptive filtering is developed. The new algorithm has a lower computational complexity than the recursive least squares algorithm and the 2D-block algorithm based on the conjugate gradient developed by \textit{K. S. Joo}, \textit{T. Bose} and \textit{Hall} [``2D nonlinear adaptive filtering for image restoration'', Proc. IEEE Workshop on Nonlinear Signal and Image Processing (1995)].
