Let be \(0< n^*<\omega\) and \(f: X\to n^*+1\) be a function, where \(X\subseteq\omega\backslash (n^*+1)\) is infinite. Consider the set \[ S_f= \{x\subseteq \aleph_\omega: |x|\leq \aleph_{n^*}\wedge (\forall n\in X) \text{cf}(x\cap \aleph_n)= \aleph_{f(n)}\}. \] Baumgartner asked whether \(S_f\) is stationary in \([\aleph_\omega]^{<\aleph_{n^*+1}}\) if \(f\) is not eventually constant. Assuming huge cardinals, Liu has given a positive answer for many \(f\)'s assuming only two different values. Magidor has shown that some large cardinals are needed to get such results. In the paper under review, the authors get stationarity of \(S_f\) for functions \(f\) which assume more than two values infinitely often. The large cardinal assumptions are relatively mild. The proofs use Shelah's pcf theory.
