    Let \(\Omega\) be a bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) with boundary of class \(C^{2+\gamma}\) for some \(\gamma\in ]0,1[\), \(s\in\mathbb{R}\), \(a_{ij} \in C^{1+\gamma} ([s,+\infty [\times \overline \Omega)\) for \(i,j\in\{0, \dots,n\}\) such that \(\sum^n_{i,j=0} a_{ij} (x)\xi_i \xi_j\geq v(x_0) |\xi |^2\) where \(v:[s,+\infty [\to]0,+\infty[\) is a continuous function, \(f\in C^1 (\mathbb{R}^{n+1} \times\mathbb{R} \times [s,+\infty [\times \overline\Omega)\), \(f(p,z,x)= O(| p|^2)\) as \(p\to\infty\), uniformly for \(x\in[s,+ \infty[\times \Omega\) and \(z\) in bounded sets, \(zf(0,z,x) \leq 0\) for \(| z|\geq M\), where \(M>0\); there exists \(\mu:[s,+ \infty[\times \overline \Omega \to]0,+\infty[\) continuous function, \(\lim_{x_0\to +\infty} \mu(x)=0\) uniformly on \((x_1, \dots, x_n)\in \overline\Omega\), such that if \(u,v\in C^2(\Omega_0)\cap C(\overline {\Omega_0})\) are bounded functions such that \(S(u)-S(v)\geq 0\) in \(\Omega_0\), where \(\Omega_0\) is a domain contained in \([s,+\infty[ \times\Omega\) and \[ S(u)(x)= \sum^n_{i,j=0} a_{ij}(x) \partial_i \partial_j u(x) +f\bigl(\nabla u(x),u(x), x\bigr). \] Then \(\mu(x)(u(x)-v(x))\leq \max\{0,\sup \{\mu(y) (u(y)-v(y)): y\in\partial \Omega_0\}\}\) for all \(x\in\Omega_0\) and the inequality is strict unless \(\mu(u-v)\) is constant in \(\Omega_0\). The authors prove the following theorem: If \(\varphi\in C (\overline\Omega)\), \(\varphi=0\) on \(\partial\Omega\), there exists one and only one \(u\in C^2(] s,+\infty[ \times\Omega))\cap C([s,+\infty[ \times\overline\Omega)\) such that \(S(u)=0\), \(u(s,y)= \varphi(y)\) for \(y\in\Omega\), \(u(x)=0\) for \(x\in[s,+\infty[ \times \partial\Omega\), \(u\) bounded in \(]s,+\infty[ \times\Omega\); \(u\) in the topology of the uniform convergence on compact sets of \([s,+\infty[ \times \overline\Omega\) depends in a continuous way on \(\varphi\) in the uniform norm. The problem satisfies the strong order-preserving property. In the case that \(a_{ij}\) and \(f\) do not depend or are periodic on the first variable, the corresponding dynamical system has a compact global attractor. Moreover conditions on \(f\) are given under which all the solutions tend to zero as the first variable tends to infinity.
