The Löwner partial ordering \(A\leq B\), in the set of \(n\times n\) complex matrices, means that \(B- A= K^*K\). The author shows that any two conditions for nonsingular Hermitian matrices imply the third in: \(A\leq B\), \(B^{-1}\leq A^{-1}\), all eigenvalues of \(A^{-1}B\) are positive. If \(A\) and \(B\) have the same range space, then the nonsingularity requirement can be dropped and the inverse is replaced by the Moore-Penrose inverse. The non-Hermitian case is also studied.
