The paper deals with function approximation, namely, research of necessary conditions for some classes of fuzzy systems to be used as universal approximators. The authors of the paper are discussing SISO (single input fuzzy sets with no restriction on fuzzy rules used) and some classes of MISO (multiple input fuzzy set) systems for approximation of a continuous function. The authors have provided necessary conditions for approximation under reasonable and not very restrictive assumptions. Also, the authors showed, that the offered approach has its limitations, especially, if it applies to functions with high frequency oscillations. The structure and language of the paper makes it quite readable, and it may be of interest to specialists in fuzzy mathematics.
