A model of our universe as a 3-sphere resting on the surface of a black hole is proposed. This configuration exists in a spacetime consisting of four space dimensions and one time dimension. The model's success with the problem of age, galaxy counts and homogeneity can be traced to the fact that it describes a universe which expanded very slowly in its early history. The problem of gauge-invariant assignment of masses to elementary particles can also be solved.
