Consider a projective space \((P,{\mathcal L}) = \text{ PG}_nF\) over a commutative field \(F\), and define \(\Phi\) as the family of all quadrics \(S \subset P\) together with \(P\) itself. For any pointset \(M\), the quadratic closure is given by \({\overline{\overline M}} = \bigcap\;\{S \in \Phi |M \subseteq S\}\). The linear closure of \(M\) is denoted by \({\overline M}\). We have \(M \subseteq {\overline{\overline M}} \subseteq{\overline M}\) by definition. A map \(\nu : P \to P'\) into another projective space is called a quadratic embedding if \(P' = {\overline {P\nu}}\) and \({\overline{\overline M}} = ({\overline {M\nu}})\nu^{\gets}\) for each set \(M \subseteq P\). Examples are provided by the classical Veronese embedding. If there exists a quadratic embedding \(\nu : P \to P'\), then \(n' = {n+2 \choose 2} - 1\). The authors introduce regular quadratic embeddings and show that in the case \(F' = F\) a regular quadratic embedding \(\nu : P \to P'\) agrees with the Veronese embedding up to a collineation.
