The note under review deals with the problem of tameness for automorphisms of certain algebras. Recall that an automorphism of the polynomial algebra \(K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]\) over a field \(K\) is tame if it is a product of affine and triangular ones, and wild otherwise. One can extend this concept in an obvious way to the free associative algebra, and thus to other non-commutative algebras. The authors consider the algebra \(R\) generated by two \(2\times 2\) generic matrices \(x\) and \(y\) over \(K\), and the algebra \(T\) generated by \(R\) and by the traces of the matrices in \(R\). They construct an automorphism of \(T\) that induces a wild automorphism on \(R\). It is known that the traces of \(x\), \(y\), \(xy\), and the determinants of \(x\) and \(y\) generate an algebra canonically isomorphic to the polynomial \(K\)-algebra in 5 variables. The authors study the properties of the restriction of the above automorphism on this polynomial algebra.
