The purpose is to provide accurate and extensive information on the structure of Stokes flow past protuberances with axisymmetric shapes. The restriction of axial symmetry is due to the particular implementation of the numerical method to be applied. A boundary-integral formulation for the three-dimensional Stokes flow in an axisymmetric domain has been used for studying shear flow past these protuberances. An important step in the mathematical formulation is the representation of the flow in terms of a single-layer hydrodynamic potential. The numerical calculation gives accurate information on the hydrodynamic force and torque in the shear flow.
