Homogenization of heterogeneous piezoelectric medium (Q1369384)

Starting with a general, linear, static mixed boundary value problem of piezoelectricity for heterogeneous and periodic media, where the field unknowns are the mechanical displacement components and the electric potential, the authors present an asymptotic averaging method for obtaining the homogenized equations and effective material coefficients. The small parameter in the used expansions is the ratio between the characteristic lengths of periodic cells and of the body as a whole. A one-dimensional example is worked out.
