The author examines the behavior of metals, in particular the axial effect, under large plastic shear deformations involving reversal of the shearing direction. A viscoplastic model is proposed in which anisotropic yield surface is employed together with a plastic spin. The author presents simulations of free-end shear and simple shear with reverse loading and discusses the effects of anisotropy and spin tensors. It is shown that the model with the plastic spin succeeds in reproducing the material behavior under cyclic loading.
