The group \((2,3,7;q)\) is defined by the presentation \(\langle a,b\mid a^2,b^3,(ab)^7,[a,b]^q\rangle\). \textit{J. Howie} and \textit{R. M. Thomas} [J. Algebra 154, No. 2, 289--309 (1993; Zbl 0791.20032)] showed, with the possible exception of \(q=11\), that \((2,3,7;q)\) is infinite if and only if \(q\geq 9\). Infiniteness of \((2,3,7;11)\) was left open, but \textit{M. Edjvet} [Lond. Math. Soc. Lect. Note Ser. 173, 66-74 (1992; Zbl 0813.20035)] proved that this group is infinite by pictures. Here a linear representation of \((2,3,7;11)\) over an extension of degree 2 of \(\mathbb{Q}(\cos(2\pi/11))\) is constructed which shows that the element \(ab[a,b^{-1}]^2ab^{-1}\) has infinite order in \((2,3,7;11)\).
