The paper discusses the basic approaches for solving differential-algebraic systems. The main attention is given in converting a differential-algebraic system to a differential system with invariant. Then one integrates the differential system using the invariant for stabilization. The basic advantage of this approach is that the method is simple to understand and to implement and that it does not introduce artificial stiffness. Many examples are discussed.
