Nonlinear dynamics of a rigid unbalanced rotor in journal bearings. I: Theoretical analysis (Q1371148)

The authors study a mathematical model of a rigid rotor supported by plane lubricated journal bearings. The reaction of the bearings is assumed to depend on the coordinates of the center of the bearings. After certain simplifications, the motion of the rotor is described as a mechanical system with four degrees of freedom. The authors present numerical results for either pure static or pure coupled unbalances, and show that under some conditions the rotor can exhibit a chaotic motion.
