This work is concerned with certain new implications of a strengthened form of the well-known ordered-forces constitutive inequality in plane isotropic hyperelasticity. It is first shown that if this inequality is satisfied, then the strain energy is bounded from below by the strain energy of a conformal deformation (with equal principal stretches) corresponding to the average of principal stretches. This result is employed for static boundary conditions to prove that radial conformal deformations are stable and to obtain a lower bound for the total strain energy of the body corresponding to an arbitrary radial deformation. Analogous results are also obtained for materials satisfying a version of the pressure-compression inequality.
